Is Upgrading to a 5800XT Worth It for General PC Use?

I'm considering an upgrade from a Ryzen 3600 to a 5800XT for under $120. I think this would be a substantial improvement for our general PC activities, like photo editing and paying bills online. Currently, we have a 580 GPU, which I might replace later. I believe the 5800XT would be a solid final upgrade for an AM4 setup that's not focused on gaming. What do you all think? This upgrade also includes a new cooler to replace the one that came with the 3600, which is a nice bonus.

Honestly, the tasks you've mentioned could be handled by a low-end CPU just fine. Are you noticing any sluggish performance? If not, do you really need this upgrade? A 5600 might even be sufficient, and it would likely cost less.

True, but I want this PC to last for around 10 years for my family. The more capable it is now, the longer it will serve their needs. I recently added 32GB of RAM too.

For under $120, I’d definitely go for the 5800XT. If it were closer to the new price of $150, I might recommend the 5600 like the other commenter, but you'll get more longevity out of that socket with the 5800XT for just a few extra bucks.

Exactly! I think with my family using it for the next decade, the 5800XT paired with the 32GB of RAM I've added and a GPU upgrade planned in a few years makes this investment worthwhile. They're already using it a lot for online courses and checking flights, plus my mom maintains a religious website on it.
