I've been struggling with SATA SSDs for nearly a year now. It all started with my first SSD, a Samsung 860 EVO, which worked fine for about four years until it began having issues. To fix it, I bought a Samsung 870 EVO, but this one started acting up right away too. I've already replaced the data and power cables, and even tried a PCIe SATA expansion card in case the motherboard ports were faulty. Software like Samsung Magician and CrystalDiskInfo hasn't reported any problems with either drive. I've reformatted both drives multiple times, but they keep having data transfer issues and often lose power when my computer enters sleep mode. The newer 870 drive seems completely dead now, while the older 860 still holds some data but struggles with writing. Fortunately, my NVMe drives have been solid, but I recently got a 6TB external HDD for backup. However, I need SATA SSDs for my work with programs like Blender and Unreal, so I'm looking for advice on what might be causing these issues and whether my current drives can still be salvaged. I want to avoid wasting money on new SATA drives that might face the same fate.

Have you tried using the SSDs in an external enclosure? Sometimes, this can help you determine if it's a problem with your motherboard or the drives themselves. If they work fine there, it might give you a clue about the issue.
I’m not too familiar with external enclosures. Can you explain how that works?
