My PC fans spin then stop—what’s going on?

Hey everyone! I'm new to building PCs and recently pieced together some old parts. I've got an Intel Pentium G3260, 6 GB of DDR3 RAM, an Asus H81M-R motherboard, an RX 580 GPU, a RADIX VII AG 600S 600W power supply, and an Integral V Series 1TB SSD. However, when I try to boot up, the CPU and PSU fans start spinning but then stop after a few seconds. I suspect I might have a faulty component, like the CPU or the RAM. I've tried swapping out the RAM and using different slots, but no luck. I even tested it without the GPU and just the minimal components. I'm completely lost! In the video I shared, I'm running it with one RAM stick, the GPU (which I tried removing too), and no SSD or disk drive. I'm hoping to figure out which component might be causing the issue before considering upgrades like a new CPU or more RAM. Any thoughts?

Honestly, it could be many things, but a failing PSU is often the culprit. If you've just bought it, maybe try testing it in another setup if you can. Also, observe how long the fans spin; if they stop right away, that's a sign. Just in case, do a visual check for any blown capacitors on the motherboard as well.

Good point! A visual inspection is always a smart move. If everything looks okay, then maybe it is time to look at a new power supply.

It sounds like you're running into some typical boot issues. First, running without the heatsink is risky; make sure your CPU is properly cooled. As for the issue, if the fans only spin for a few seconds and nothing displays, it could be a power supply problem. Since you just got that PSU, it's worth checking to make sure it's functioning correctly. Are all your connections secure? Double-check those!

Yeah, definitely make sure everything is plugged in properly! Sometimes a loose cable can cause issues.
