Which GPU Should I Choose for 1440p Gaming: RX 9070 XT or RX 7900 XTX?

I'm thinking of upgrading my graphics card from an RTX 3080 (10GB) and am torn between getting the RX 9070 XT for $960 CAD or the RX 7900 XTX for $1,100 CAD. I primarily game at 1440p on my main monitor, and I also have two 1080p monitors. I've heard there are some steps to take when switching from Nvidia to AMD, and I'm looking for advice on which GPU would be the best fit for my setup.

I just made a similar choice and went with the 7900 XTX. What swayed me was that most of the games I play don’t use ray tracing much. I realized it doesn't really matter for my gaming style. Plus, the games I care about perform really well on the XTX, especially since I need more VRAM for titles like Star Citizen. It just feels right for my gaming habits!

Jumping from a 3080 to either RX GPU will be a big step up! The 7900 XTX is definitely stronger, but the 9070 XT has some good features too, like FSR 4. If you're considering that, definitely weigh how often you'd use it!

Is FSR 4 really worth the investment? I'm curious!

If you don't really need the 24GB of VRAM, then the 7900 XTX might not be worth the extra cash for you. For gaming at 1440p, you likely won't miss it. Just remember to use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) when you switch from Nvidia to AMD—that'll help smooth out the transition!

The 7900 XTX is on sale for $500 off right now, so it might be worth considering if you're okay with the price!

Honestly, both cards are great options! The RX 7900 XTX will offer more power for 1440p gaming, but if you want to save some cash, the RX 9070 XT at $960 CAD is still a great pick. Just make sure to use DDU before switching your drivers, and you should be all set!
