Recommendations for a Budget-Friendly Windows 11 Motherboard

I'm trying to upgrade my dad's old computer, but the current motherboard just won't support Windows 11. I'm on a tight budget, ideally looking to spend around $60 CAD. I'm hoping to find either a cheap new motherboard or a common used one on places like eBay or Facebook Marketplace. I'm leaning towards AMD motherboards if possible. Thanks a lot for any help!

Microsoft has extended security updates for Windows 10 until October 2026. Just a note if you decide to stay with Windows 10 for a little longer—you’ll need to enable Windows Backup to get those free updates, which can involve some cloud storage considerations.

Thanks for the update! That's helpful to know about the extended support.

Just a heads up, you'll also need a compatible CPU along with the motherboard. If you're not set on Windows 11, sticking with Windows 10 or even trying Linux are good options. Just keep in mind that Windows 10 will be losing support soon.

If you're comfortable using Rufus, you can actually bypass the TPM requirement and install Windows 11 on the current machine without needing a new one. Might save you some cash!

For your budget, look for an AM4 motherboard. You can find 3rd gen Ryzen CPUs that are pretty affordable too. If you're lucky, you might score an 8th gen Intel board that's also compatible for a good price. Keep your eyes open for deals!
