I've got an older Iiyama 24 inch monitor that's about 12 years old, and it's suddenly started making this crackling noise that sounds like arcing. I work in tech, but I've never encountered this issue before. Since the monitor has CCFL backlights, could it be that the bulb is finally failing? The sound is definitely coming from the top back of the monitor, and not from any speakers.

If it’s a CCFL monitor, it might be time for a replacement. These older models can start acting up after a while. You might find a decent deal on a new one on eBay or even at local charity shops for under £30.
As a software developer, I get the importance of asking for help! It can be tricky to troubleshoot hardware if you’re not familiar with electrical issues. If the monitor is still working for now, maybe consider upgrading to a modern 27 inch model sooner rather than later.
