Can My Motherboard Safely Touch the Back of My PC Case?

Hey everyone, I'm nearly done with my PC build, but I've got a quick question. My micro ATX motherboard is touching the rear area of my case where I plug in devices like my mouse, keyboard, and Ethernet. I'm not talking about the motherboard making contact with the back plate; it's the sides of the motherboard that are touching. I'm using standoffs to keep it in place, and it seems like this is the only way to fit everything in. Is this safe? Looking for some reassurance before I power it on!

It sounds like you’re in good shape! The edges of the motherboard are typically designed not to interfere, as long as no solder points or circuits are exposed. The touching area should just be grounding with the backplane, so as long as everything lines up correctly and you checked that there aren’t any short circuits, you should be fine. Just double-check before you power it up to avoid any issues!

All my ports line up perfectly with their corresponding holes in the backplane, which is great. But I've also noticed that the edge near my GPU is touching the case. Is that still safe?

Yeah, I made sure everything aligns. Just trying to be cautious here!

Probably fine, but sharing some pictures of the setup could help us give you a better answer!

If you’re only seeing edge contact and it’s not damaging anything important, I think it should be alright. Just be sure nothing is pinched or causing a short circuit. Safety first, always!
