I've been struggling to update my Windows 11 for a couple of months now. It gets to 99% during the update process and then throws an error message saying 'something didn't go as planned,' before looping back to the desktop. I checked the cbs.log file and it shows errors related to partition access:
- Failed to get partition name. Status = 0xc0000452
- Failed to get system partition! Last Error = 0x3bc3
- ServicingBootFiles failed. Error = 0x3bc3
I took a look at Disk Management and it seems like I should have a separate 'EFI system partition.' Instead, it lists 'System' on Disk 2, which is where Windows is installed. Any guidance on how to resolve this would be appreciated!

It sounds like you're dealing with a boot issue due to the physical order of your disks. The EFI system partition should really be on the first disk. If you're considering changing the order of disks, keep in mind that doing so might require a startup repair. If your disks are on the same controller, just swapping the cables on the motherboard should help. But if they are on different types of controllers, you might need to change the order directly in the BIOS settings. You might also want to check if your system is using GPT instead of MBR since that can affect partition creation.
Before making any changes, always ensure your data is backed up! As for your partition issue, if Disk 2 is already set up as GPT and you're still having trouble creating an EFI system partition, that could be your solution. It's generally not a good idea to have system partitions on disks meant for data. Creating a dedicated EFI partition on the right disk could help resolve your update issues.
