Hey everyone! I'm trying to build a gaming PC but I'm pretty lost when it comes to choosing the right components. Here's what I'm thinking so far:
- AMD Ryzen 7 5700X
- MSI B550 M motherboard
- RX 6500 8GB graphics card
- 550W MSI PSU
- 1TB SSD
- 16GB DDR4 RAM
I need some advice on a good cooler and case as well. Can someone please take a look at my build and suggest optimizations to help me get the best performance while staying within my $900 budget?

I think you can save some cash by staying with the RX 6500 for now. It's decent for 1080p gaming if you don't want to stretch your budget too much. Just make sure to check benchmarks for the games you play. For the RAM, if you can find some DDR4 on sale, that could make a difference too!
DDR5 is definitely better but might push you over budget right now. Plus, most games still run well on DDR4.
For a solid optimization:
- Keep the Ryzen 7 5700X.
- Upgrade the RX 6500 8GB to an RX 6700 XT 12GB for better graphics.
- Increase your RAM from 16GB to 32GB, I'd recommend Kingston for reliability.
- Consider switching to a 1TB NVMe SSD if you can find a good brand.
- For the PSU, aim for a 550W 80+ Gold to ensure stability and efficiency!
Thanks for that! What about a cooler and case? Any suggestions?
The cooler and case really depend on what you prefer. Since you're using an MSI B550M motherboard, just search for MicroATX cases online and choose one you like. As for the cooler, look for a CPU cooler compatible with the Ryzen 7 5700X.
Good to know! Is it worth considering DDR5 RAM for future-proofing?
