Hey everyone! I need some advice on upgrading my CPU. I've noticed that my CPU is really holding back my computer's performance, especially after I just upgraded to a GTX 1660 Super from a GTX 970. Here are my current specs:
- CPU: i5 6600k
- Motherboard: Gigabyte G1 Sniper B7-CF
- GPU: GTX 1660 Super
- RAM: 16GB DDR4 3200MHz
I'm hoping to make an upgrade without having to swap out my motherboard, but I'm starting to think I might need to move to a newer platform. Any suggestions?

If you're looking for a decent upgrade, you'll probably need a whole new setup. It’s tough to find anything better that works with your current motherboard.
You could go for the 7700K, but keep in mind that it runs hotter compared to the 6700K. Personally, I'd try to squeeze into an AM4 setup if I were you, even on a budget.
The only real option you have without a full platform change is grabbing a second-hand i7 7700K. Just keep in mind it still offers only 4 cores and 8 threads, so you won't get a huge performance boost.
If you're tight on budget, definitely consider the AM4 option. It might give you a better upgrade path later on without breaking the bank.
You could get an i7 8700K cheaply, about 80 bucks used. However, remember your current motherboard won't support it. The best upgrade for you would be the i7 7700K.
Exactly! You'll need to stick with the i7 7700K since newer Intel chips won't work with that board.
Yup, that motherboard only supports 6th and 7th gen Intel chips, so the 8700K is off the table for sure.
