Hey everyone! I've been using my EVGA FTW3 3080 and Ryzen 5 5600X since the pandemic, and while it's been serving me well for most games, I've recently run into issues with games crashing when I try to push them beyond 120fps. I mostly play some graphically demanding titles like Forza, Red Dead 2, Elden Ring, and Hogwarts Legacy.
Right now, I'm gaming on a 17-inch 1440p monitor that supports 170hz, but I'm thinking about making the jump to 4K resolution. Given that my games are crashing at 1440p 120fps, I'm curious if my current setup can even handle 4K, even at 60fps. Should I consider upgrading my hardware? If so, any recommendations on what I should upgrade to?

Upgrading to 4K is definitely going to be a huge step up in terms of graphical demand. The 3080 does a decent job at 1440p, but for 4K gaming, it might struggle, especially if you’re experiencing crashes at 1440p. I'd recommend checking out those FPS comparisons online to see how your card stacks up. You might want to consider a GPU like the RTX 4080 or 4090 if you’re looking for smoother 4K gameplay, but be prepared for some serious cash. Just keep in mind, it's significantly more demanding at 4K!
Absolutely! The new generation cards can definitely manage 4K at higher refresh rates, but yeah, they come at a hefty price. You might even want to look at previous gen cards like the 3080 Ti, which could be a bit more affordable but still provide decent performance at 4K.
