I'm looking to buy SSDs that will last a long time, focusing on reliability. Should I choose NAND or NVMe drives, or would it be better to stick with NAS enterprise HDDs instead?

Definitely go for NVMe! They outperform HDDs by a long shot. I've been using NVMe for years and my oldest drives are still running strong. They’re way better for performance, just use HDDs for bulk storage nowadays.

Opt for an M.2 NVMe drive; they're reliable and much better than HDDs. You'll thank yourself later!

That's great, but I’m worried about SSDs failing after not being used for a while.

When choosing SSDs, the key is to avoid QLC flash memory. For reliable options, look for retail drives from brands like Micron, Crucial, Samsung, SK Hynix, or Toshiba. The Kioxia Exceria Heatsink, WD_Black SN850X, Crucial T500, SK Hynix Platinum P41, and Samsung 990 Pro are solid picks!
