I recently tried to take apart my Asus Vivobook 15 to replace the monitor screen. I made sure to turn it off and unplug it, but when I removed the back cover, smoke the size of a golf ball started coming out from the corner. I quickly blew it out and managed to install the new screen, but now my laptop won't turn on at all. I checked the motherboard and it doesn't seem to have any visible damage. I even took out the battery and tried powering it on with just the charger, but no lights come on. I'm really stuck and not sure how to proceed from here.

It sounds like you might have shorted something on the mainboard during your repair. It's really tough to say without seeing the laptop, but if you're not getting any lights now, that's not a good sign. If you're not comfortable troubleshooting further, it might just be time to consider getting a new laptop as painful as that is.
I get how frustrating this must be. Just to clarify, when you were working on it, did you definitely remove the battery before opening it? If the battery was still connected, that could lead to a short circuit. Opening up laptops can sometimes be tricky, but if you’re not seeing physical damage, it may not be completely dead yet.
