We don't have an audit response team either, and truthfully, if we got audited, we’d probably struggle a lot. But I can assure you, we keep track of every single license and are compliant! Our setup mostly runs on open-source software, with just a couple of proprietary items for specific instruments, which makes it easier.
Honestly, in our circle, audits are seen as absolute nightmares! 😂 Most of us just think the best way to deal with them is to ignore them and hope they go away. But jokes aside, it’s a real issue for many companies now.
It's the companies with a culture clash that struggle the most during audits. When IT departments are secretive about software usage and compliance teams treat true-ups as negotiation strategies, that’s a recipe for disaster!
I've never worked anywhere big enough to have designated software asset managers or a specific audit response team. It's just not been on my radar. But I get that it's a serious topic for larger organizations!
That’s interesting! I’ve seen a few companies hire someone known as the ‘deal maker’ to negotiate better licensing terms. Still, that's not quite the same as having a full team for audits.
