How Long Can I Rely on My Failing Hard Drive?

Hey everyone, I just got this alert on my old 2016 ASUS ROG laptop:

"port 0 smart status bad backup and replace press f1 to resume."
I think this means my hard drive is on its way out, which isn't great since I was hoping to use it for another 11 months until its 10th anniversary. The laptop is still booting up fine, but I'm worried about how much longer I can use it.

I need a few days to get an external drive for backups and figure out my next steps for a new PC. Should I expect the laptop to last long enough for me to back everything up? Or is it better to turn it off? Any advice would be amazing—thanks!

Honestly, it’s hard to predict. Your best move right now is to backup your data as soon as possible. Don’t wait too long—hard drives can fail at any moment!

Thanks for the reply! I’ve ordered an external hard drive for Wednesday. Should I keep the laptop on until then, in case I can’t boot it up later?
