I recently upgraded to a motherboard that features one PCIe x16 slot for my video card and two PCIe x1 slots for a sound card and Wi-Fi. However, I've noticed that one of the PCIe x1 slots appears to be "covered" and is not usable. Can anyone help me understand what's going on?

It sounds like you may not have shared the specifics of your build, which makes troubleshooting tough. But I'd suggest looking into whether you actually need a sound card. Many motherboards have decent built-in audio these days, and if you don't require higher-end audio features, you might reconsider that sound card. Also, if Wi-Fi is essential for you, a motherboard with integrated Wi-Fi could save you the hassle of using up expansion slots.
Totally get your frustration! If one of the PCIe x1 slots is saying it's covered, that might just mean there's something blocking it on the board itself, like a piece of hardware you already have installed. Make sure your video card and any other cards aren't hogging space. And by the way, sound cards can enhance audio quality, but many users find onboard audio works just fine for gaming or casual use.
