I'm planning to build my very first PC and I could really use some guidance. My main focus will be on editing in After Effects and occasionally using DaVinci Resolve. I've been chatting with ChatGPT about various components, but I'm uncertain if everything I've picked will work together. Here's what I've been researching:
- GPU: RTX 5090 or 4090
- RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB, DDR5, 96 GB, 6400MHz, CL32
- CPU: Intel i9-14900K or Intel Ultra 9 285k
- Motherboard: Asus ROG MAXIMUS Z890 HERO BTF
- Power Supply: Corsair RM1200x SHIFT 1200W
- CPU Cooling: Corsair iCUE H150i Elite Capellix XT
- Case: Corsair 7000D AIRFLOW TG
- Fans: Corsair iCUE QL120 RGB PWM 120mm (x3)
I also need to get three SSDs for my setup, but it's not as urgent as the other parts. I really hope this isn't seen as a meme; I genuinely need assistance with this!

Looks like you’re going all out! But I gotta ask—are you sure you have a $5000 budget for this build? The RTX 5090 itself is expected to be around $2600. Also, the i9-14900K is probably not the best choice right now for your needs. You might save a lot by going for a more cost-effective case too; a full tower isn’t strictly necessary unless you're worried about the size of the components. Have you considered just getting one larger SSD instead of three? It could simplify your setup! Try using pcpartpicker.com to organize your build—should help a lot!
Yeah, I do have a bigger budget. I’m curious though, why's the 14900K a bad choice right now? I thought a full tower was essential for the big motherboard and GPUs. The three SSDs are for different types of files since I do a lot of editing, so I figured it might help. But I’ll definitely check out pcpartpicker—thanks for the tip!
