Hey everyone! I just got a new monitor to use alongside my existing one, hoping to set up a total of three screens: my laptop and two monitors. However, I'm running into a problem where the third monitor is just mirroring the second one. I've been testing with an HDMI switch and a splitter, but Windows 11 only recognizes two screens. My laptop specs are an 11th Gen Intel i5 processor. I'd greatly appreciate any advice or solutions you might have!

Just a heads up, it’s important to clarify whether you’re using a switch or a splitter; they serve different purposes. A switch just allows you to toggle between outputs, while a splitter duplicates the signal across both devices. If you want independent displays, a docking station is definitely the better choice to support multiple monitors.
It sounds like what you really need is a docking station for your laptop. By connecting two monitors directly to the dock, you can avoid the issues that come with splitters. Splitters just repeat the same signal to each monitor, which is why you're only seeing the same display. A docking station will let your laptop recognize both monitors individually, giving you that three-screen setup you're aiming for!
This makes so much sense! I've had similar issues in the past. Docking stations really do change the game when it comes to multiple displays.
Thanks for the clarification! I thought I was covered with my splitter, but now it makes sense why it didn’t work out.
