I'm considering using a SATA to PCIe adapter to power a device that requires about 27 watts. My concern is whether this setup is safe or if there's a risk of the adapter melting or overheating. Does anyone have experience with this?

Using a SATA to PCIe adapter for 27 watts should be fine since SATA cables can handle up to 54 watts. Just make sure your power supply is capable of delivering that much power without issues. Better to be cautious though!

That's reassuring to hear, thanks! I'll double-check my PSU's output to be safe.

27 watts is generally considered safe for that kind of adapter, but always keep an eye on things just in case! If you're concerned, look into Molex to PCIe adapters which are usually a safer bet, or use dual SATA to single PCIe adapters. They can spread the load better.

You might want to avoid that altogether. While some SATA connections can support up to 54 watts, running high power through them can be risky, especially regarding potential fire hazards. Better safe than sorry!

What exactly are you trying to power that requires this? Just curious!
