Is it worth using a RAM drive for game storage?

I've been thinking about whether using a RAM drive to store the game Rust is a good idea. I know RAM is volatile, which means I would have to reinstall the game after each PC restart, but I usually only reboot during Windows updates. Do you think the startup speed would be worth it? Also, I'm short on RAM right now, so it might get pricey.

Honestly, why not just go for an SSD? They’re more practical and will give you great performance without the hassle of losing everything on reboot.

If you're talking about Rust the game or the Rust programming language, that's a key difference! But generally, a RAM drive might not be worth the hassle for either. Compiling on a RAM drive can be nice, but just storing a game isn't likely to help much unless you’ve got spare RAM to play with!

Using a RAM disk sounds cool in theory, but in real life, it’s not really practical. Since you're looking for storage for Rust, you might already find that the game loads into RAM while you're playing—putting it on a RAM drive doesn't really add any benefit.

I wouldn't recommend it. There's not really any benefit to using a RAM drive for this. It's more of a fun project than a sensible choice. Plus, you don’t even have enough RAM for it, right?

Why would you even need a RAM drive? It seems unnecessary. If you're facing issues with speeds or performance, maybe explore different options.
