Why is my CPU suddenly overheating after recent updates?

I built my first PC about two months ago and it was running perfectly, with temperatures usually staying below 70 degrees Celsius. However, after that bad Fortnite update which caused my PC to freeze (a common issue for many), I had to disable the Realtek ethernet family controller driver to fix the problem. Since then, my CPU temperature has spiked; for instance, while trying to play a battle royale game, it hit 95 degrees for about 10 seconds before dropping back down to 80. I'm really worried about this because in startup it already hits around 70, and I'm not seeing that cooler performance that I used to have. Here are the specs of my build: AMD Ryzen 9700x, AMD RX 9070 XT (which never exceeded 70 degrees), and I'm using a Peerless Assassin 120 White Digital cooler in a Montech King 95 Pro case (with 5 intake and 1 exhaust fan). Any advice would be appreciated!

It's pretty normal for 9000 series CPUs to heat up during certain tasks, especially after new updates. They actually have a temp rating of up to 95C, so if it cools back down to the 80s pretty quickly, you're likely not in any serious trouble. Just keep an eye on it; some fluctuations can happen after updates, but it’s good to monitor things just in case.

That makes sense, but it is odd that my PC was running cooler before—like, 20 degrees cooler! Could this be a thermal paste issue or something?
