How can I fix my CD burner that just won’t work?

I recently got a CD burner along with some blank CDs and decided to give it a try. Everything seemed fine during the process—it even said the burning was successful—but the CDs don't play any music at all. Today I tried again, but now my computer doesn't recognize that there's a CD in the drive. It identifies the burner, but when I access it, it just prompts me to insert a CD, even though I've swapped them several times. I'm using Windows 10, mostly with Media Player. Any advice would really help!

It's essential to check what types of files you're burning. Make sure they’re appropriate formats like mp3s for music CDs. Also, if you’re trying to burn multiple songs, just start with one to test things out.

I’ve been burning music files, so that should work, just really weird it’s not going through.

Weird for sure! Just remember to keep it simple at first and see what happens.

Have you checked if your CD drive is functioning properly? Go to Device Manager and make sure everything's okay with it. Sometimes, it might not show up properly if there's an issue.

If it seems fine, try different CDs or test the burner with another computer to see where the issue might be.

I looked at the Device Manager and everything seems fine, though it doesn't show any specific errors.

Make sure you're using the right kind of CDs. If they’re the right ones (like CD-Rs for music), it should work fine. Also, try checking your Windows Media Player settings or consider using a different burning software, as WMP can be a bit finicky sometimes.

I think I’m using CD-Rs but they’re 800MB, should I switch to 700MB ones?

800MB should work. Just double-check if you’re selecting the correct format when burning.

If you’re using Windows Media Player, it might not be the best choice for burning CDs. Have a go with software like CDBurnerXP—it's free and generally more reliable for this kind of task!

Thanks! I’ll try that and see if it works any better.

Great! Let me know how it goes!
