Seeking Advice on Upgrading On-Prem Storage Solutions

I'm in the process of upgrading our on-premises server infrastructure and could really use some advice. It's my first time tackling this, and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by the options available. Currently, we have four older VMWare hosts connected to a single Dell NAS, which mainly holds our virtual disks. We're considering reducing the number of hosts to two or three, but maintaining high availability is a concern.

Here are some options I've been looking into:
* Sticking with our current setup and getting new servers along with a new Dell PowerVault for VM storage, though I worry about the single point of failure.
* Implementing Starwind vSAN for storage replication between hosts using 10/25GbE fiber NICs with each server having 10TB SSD SATA storage for high availability. SSD SAS is beyond our budget.
* Exploring a high availability SAN setup with multiple Dell PowerVaults or alternative solutions from vendors like PureStorage.

One of our applications requires 99% uptime, so full redundancy would be ideal. I'm also curious about any resources to help me understand server storage better, whether it's high availability or not.

I've been a Starwind customer for over a decade, and I can say it's fantastic. I've had multiple clusters without any issues, and their support is top-notch if you ever run into problems. If high availability is a priority for you, I’d definitely lean toward Starwind since it offers good performance and eliminates that single point of failure with the PowerVault setup. That option feels a bit risky to me.

Each option has its own strengths. vSAN is powerful, but remember to consider the performance overhead on your hosts since they'll be handling storage tasks too. If you want a hands-off approach, a high availability SAN solution like PureStorage might be worth it, but be ready for the cost. They do provide a really reliable and battle-tested solution.

So it sounds like PureStorage would really be a reliable choice if we prioritize uptime?
