Why is my laptop screen turning purple at the top?

I've been having an issue with my laptop where the upper half of the screen turns purple when I first turn it on. It kind of resembles the issue shown in this image: [https://imgur.com/a/L14FdWH](https://imgur.com/a/L14FdWH), but it only happens in the upper half. The weird part is, I can fix it by pinching the corners of the screen, starting from the bottom left and working my way around until I find the right spot to press. When I hit the sweet spot, the screen goes back to normal, but this only lasts until I shut down the laptop. I've tried this multiple times, and it happens every time I turn it back on. I'm pretty sure it's not a problem with the motherboard or graphics, since my external monitor works perfectly fine while the laptop screen is purple. I also checked the connections and they seem secure. Could this mean my screen is on its way out, or could it just be an issue with the display wire?

Can you tell me what model laptop you're using? It sounds like the screen is definitely having issues and might need a replacement. Depending on the model, it could be cheaper to get a new laptop altogether!

It's an ASUS GL703VD that I've had for about 10 years. It hasn't been dropped or damaged, so I'm not sure why this is happening!

Sounds like it could be a display issue rather than a motherboard problem. The ribbon cable connecting the display and the motherboard is usually at the bottom, so it doesn't make much sense that pinching the top would fix the picture. It might just be a loose connection along the way.

That does make sense! But I'm still curious why pressing the case would help. Sometimes it fixes itself when I leave it open for a few days. It’s weird how it comes back as soon as I restart.
