How long can I expect my PC build to last for 1440p gaming?

I recently bought a PC from a friend for $2,000. He barely used it because we're close friends, and he gave me the build receipt and warranty info from the company that built it. The specs include a 4080 Super, i9-14900K processor, 32 GB of RAM, and 2 TB of storage, and it's just over a year old. I've been using it to play Fortnite at high FPS (240) at 1440p and for some schoolwork. Given these specs, how long should this build realistically last me if I want to keep gaming at 1440p?

Really, it'll last as long as it performs well for you! I’ve had builds that lasted around 6-7 years. It’s all about how long it meets your needs.

Exactly! I’ve been using a lower-end PC since 2020 and only started thinking about upgrading now. If your current hardware serves your interests well, there's no rush to upgrade.

You should be good for a long time! I played 1440p on an old i5-4th gen with a GTX 970 for nearly 10 years, and it was still running strong. As long as you don't jump into 4K gaming, you'll be fine!

I'd say around 4-5 years for AAA games at 1440p. Remember, you can always lower settings or use upscaling if needed down the line. Also, consider a BIOS update to avoid any issues with the 14th gen Intel chipsets.

Totally agree on the BIOS update! It’ll help maintain your system's longevity.

Your build has solid specs so you might be looking at 7-10 years if you take care of it. Just keep upgrading the GPU when necessary; VRAM is often a bigger limiting factor than overall power.

Yeah, VRAM is crucial! Just ensure that your BIOS is up to date to prevent issues with your CPU. That’ll help you maximize your performance over time.

Throwing out specific years is tricky, but you should last for several years. You'll be fine as long as you can still play the games you enjoy at your preferred settings. Keep an eye on what newer games require, though.
