Help! I Installed the Wrong Audio Driver on My HP Laptop, Now My Webcam Mic Doesn’t Work

I recently tried to fix an issue with my headphone's mic not working on my HP 15s fq2561TU. Unfortunately, I ended up installing the wrong audio driver. Now, my built-in webcam microphone is listed as a "digital microphone device" in the device manager, but it can't find the correct driver. I've tried uninstalling the driver and rebooting, as well as reinstalling the correct driver, but nothing seems to work. I'm considering doing a Windows repair through the update, but I'd prefer to find a solution without resetting my PC.

If downloading the driver doesn't fix the issue, another option is checking if the Windows audio settings are correctly configured. Double-check that your built-in mic is selected as the default input device in the sound settings. This can sometimes get lost in the shuffle after driver changes.

Great point! I had to do that once when I messed up my audio settings. Plus, if you go to the privacy settings, make sure that apps are allowed to use the microphone too.

It sounds like a frustrating situation! First off, you might want to try uninstalling the microphone again from the device manager and then downloading the proper driver directly from HP's website. Make sure you're selecting the driver that's specifically compatible with Windows 11. Sometimes, getting drivers directly from the manufacturer is more reliable than using automated updates.

Honestly, I've had similar issues with HP drivers before. They can be really hit or miss! If getting the driver from the website doesn't work, you might want to check if there are older versions available. Sometimes, the newer ones aren't as stable.
