Changing Careers: From Law to Coding – Is It Worth It?

Hey everyone! I'm a 27-year-old woman with a background in law; I have a Bcom, an LLb, and a Masters in Law (LLM). My husband has been a backend developer for nearly a decade, and watching him work got me interested in coding. I recently started using FreeCodeCamp and have almost finished learning HTML. I'm starting to feel more comfortable with coding and I'm really excited about the possibility of pursuing a career in programming.

Here's my dilemma: Am I making the right choice by switching careers? Do you think FreeCodeCamp will help me land a job in this field? I don't have a formal coding degree, so will that hinder me in finding a good job? My husband also dropped out of college but is successful and works from home, which inspires me to think I can do this too. Plus, I currently have a 3-month-old baby, so being able to work from home is a huge motivator for me.

Consider looking into a conversion degree; it's a shorter program that can get you up to speed in about 10-11 months. They might not even realize it's a conversion degree! Just something to think about as you transition.

I appreciate the suggestion! However, I'm from India, and I’m not sure there are options like that here.

FreeCodeCamp is a solid resource as long as you put in the effort! It's pretty much self-driven, so it's all about how much you practice. Also, your legal background can be a unique advantage—many law firms need developers who understand their specific needs. You could definitely find a niche there!
