Looking for CPU Advice for a New Build

I built my PC back in 2016 and haven't kept up with the latest in the PC world. Now that I need to build a new PC for university, I've discovered that things have changed a lot—and not just in terms of pricing. I've heard that AMD CPUs are generally favored these days, but I also know that Intel's recent generations have had some serious reliability issues. I've noticed that Intel's 13th and 14th gen CPUs had a reputation for damaging chips, but I've seen that they might have addressed some of those problems through updates.

I'm on a tight budget and need a system mainly for the Adobe suite and 3D rendering, with less focus on gaming. I see that AMD CPUs are often a bit pricier even on the second-hand market, which has me leaning towards Intel for a better deal.

I found an Intel Core i9-14900KS for $510 AUD brand new and a used AMD Ryzen 9 9900X3D for $750 AUD. Given that I really don't care about the AMD chip being used, I'm wondering if the 14900KS would be a good choice, especially since it's unopened and potentially free of the issues that plagued the 13th and 14th gen. Would it be worth considering the lower price for the Intel CPU?

The Intel Core i9-14900KS definitely seems like the better deal for your needs. If you're looking for something with fewer complications, you might also consider the Intel Core Ultra 7 265KF, which is a bit more than the 14900KS but has none of the 13th and 14th gen issues, plus it's more efficient.

Thanks! I’ve seen the 265KF for a bit more than the 14900KS. Is it any different from the 265K?
