Why Isn’t My Sound Working on Windows 11 After Installing Drivers?

Hey everyone, I'm having a tough time with my Windows 11 PC—my sound just stopped working! I connect my headphones or speakers, and the computer recognizes them, but there's no audio. It all began when I tried to update the drivers for my Epson Stylus C43sx printer. I downloaded some drivers, and I think during that process, I accidentally updated something related to Bluetooth and audio. Since then, despite trying to connect and disconnect devices, update drivers from Device Manager, and even performing some tweaks in PowerShell, I've had no luck. I even checked my headphones on my phone, and they're fine. What do you think could be causing this? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Yeah, those driver software can be tricky! They often don't check for compatibility properly. It’s best to look up your actual motherboard or laptop model and get drivers straight from the manufacturer's website. I’d recommend removing any drivers you’ve installed from those updater sites as Windows might keep using that faulty driver, which could be why you're having sound issues.

If you're still having trouble after trying everything, you might need to just remove the audio driver completely and reinstall it from scratch. Check in Device Manager for your sound card, uninstall it, and then reboot your PC. Windows should reinstall the driver automatically, or you can manually install the correct one from the official site.

I agree with the clean install suggestion, but if you want to troubleshoot without going that route, go to Device Manager and try rolling back your last sound driver update. If that doesn't let you, it's possible that the prior version was removed. Just make sure you download your audio drivers directly from the manufacturer’s site, as those third-party updater programs can really mess you up. Good luck!

It sounds like you might have installed some shady software along with those drivers. Driver updaters can often mess things up without you knowing it, and there's a good chance it messed with your audio settings too. A clean install of Windows might be the best way to clear out any unwanted changes. But if that’s not an option, try reinstalling the audio drivers directly from your motherboard’s official website instead of using third-party programs. That should help get everything back on track.
