Hey everyone! I'm a teenager looking to get into IT, and I'm currently in the learning phase. Right now, I'm using VSCode because I love the plugins, integrated terminal, and its ease of use. However, I'm curious whether I should consider switching to Vim or even Neovim. I've heard that there are different distributions of Neovim, similar to Linux distros. What do you guys think? Would it be beneficial for me to learn Vim, and if so, which version should I go for?

Absolutely, learning some Vim motions can boost your efficiency, even if you stick with VSCode. There are Vim emulation plugins for VSCode that can help you get used to the keybindings without fully switching.
You should definitely try both Vim and Neovim! Experimenting now while you're learning is a great way to figure out what you like. No pressure!
Honestly, knowing how to quit and edit a bit in Vim got me hired for my first job! When my team saw I could use it well, they pushed for my hire. It's useful to know, even if you mainly use other IDEs.
It’s definitely beneficial to know the basics of Vim. You'll find it useful for minor edits or if you run into systems that only have Vim available. Keep VSCode for your main work, but it can't hurt to learn Vim for those rare situations when you need it.
You probably don't need to switch to Vim completely, but it's a good idea to learn the basics. There will be times when you need to edit files on a system that only has Vim available, and knowing how to operate it can really save you.
Yeah, just knowing how to get into insert mode and save/quit will help a lot in those situations!
Totally agree! If you're doing sysadmin work, definitely learn more, but if you're mostly coding, stick with what's comfortable.

Wait, are you serious? That sounds pretty wild!
