I'm currently studying systems engineering and have a basic understanding of Java. Right now, I'm only able to learn programming using online compilers. I'm looking for advice on what I should focus on learning if I want to become a backend developer. Any suggestions?

Before diving deep, maybe focus on being able to ask clearer questions and clarify what you need. It's a big part of learning.

For backend languages, Node.js and Go are both really popular and easier to grasp compared to some other system languages. You might want to look into those as well!

Using online compilers is a great way to learn the basics, so keep at it! But for backend development, you'll need a local setup to run server software. Consider buying an old computer and installing Linux on it. You don’t need something fancy; just find something affordable online. If that’s not an option, renting a VPS is a good alternative, or even getting a Raspberry Pi could work!

Yeah, for just learning, a VPS can be super affordable and effective.

True! Plus, you can often find old computers for free if you look around.
