Is the 9800X3D Worth It for a 1440P Gaming Build?

I'm considering a new MFF (Micro Form Factor) build using cases like the Lian Li A3 or a new Phanteks mini case, mainly for gaming at 1440P. Budget isn't a huge concern, but if I'm investing in something as powerful as a 9070XT, I'm wondering if the 9800X3D would be a good match. Should I skip it and opt for CPUs like the 9600X, 9700X, or 7700X instead? I've heard that beyond 1080P, the performance isn't really CPU-bound anymore. Additionally, I've seen Microcenter has some good AMD bundle deals with motherboards. What do you all recommend?

For the price, the 9800X3D is hard to justify. You might find better value with something like the 7700X or even the 9600X, which are both great for gaming and a lot cheaper. Plus, check out those Microcenter bundles—they're usually a steal!

Yeah, their bundles are awesome! I might lean that way for a small MFF build.

The best option might actually be getting a mid-range CPU like the 9600X. The 9800X3D is the top gaming CPU, but unless you're really pushing for high frame rates at 1440P, you won't notice much difference. Plus, it really depends on your GPU setup at that point!

Yeah, that makes sense. I’ll likely go with the best GPU I can find and save some cash on the CPU.

Honestly, the 9800X3D is fantastic for gaming, but it's not the best 'bang for your buck.' If you're primarily gaming, you might be just fine with a less expensive option. It becomes a balance between price and performance.

Gotcha! I might just stick with a regular CPU like the 7600X or 9700X, especially if I’m planning future upgrades.

The 7800X3D and 7600X3D are currently the best value CPUs from AMD, especially for gaming. If you're considering performance, those options might serve you better than the 9800X3D for the money.

Don't forget about the 9700X—it sits nicely in between the 9600X and 9800X3D, making it another solid choice.

I think it's a good investment if you have the budget. $100 difference from the 7800X3D for performance gains could be worth it in terms of future-proofing your setup, especially as gaming demands increase.

Sounds reasonable. Future-proofing is a big deal for me, especially with future game releases.
