Hey everyone! I'm looking to upgrade my PC, which has served me well for years, but it's starting to slow down and can't handle modern games anymore. I primarily use it for gaming. Currently, I have an ASrock AB350 pro4 motherboard, an AMD Ryzen 5 1500x CPU, a GTX 1060 graphics card, and 16GB of RAM. I can't really afford a new graphics card at the moment, but I'm thinking about upgrading my CPU and adding more RAM in the empty slots I have. I've got a budget of around $300-$400. I was considering the AMD Ryzen 7 5800x, but I'm not sure if that's the right way to go. Any suggestions or advice would be hugely appreciated!

What power supply and RAM do you have? Knowing that can help a lot when you're figuring out upgrades. It's key to ensure your new components are all compatible and won't strain your system too much.
Awesome, sounds like you're in a good position with that PSU!
It really depends on whether you're looking for a short-term fix or something that will last longer. I was in a similar situation, wanting to upgrade from my Ryzen 5, and I ended up deciding to go for a more future-proof option. I switched to an AM5 motherboard, got a Ryzen 5 7600x, and added DDR5 RAM. It cost me around 600 euros, but it sets me up nicely for future upgrades without worrying about compatibility issues. If you're looking to upgrade now but want to avoid needing to upgrade again soon, it might be worth saving up a bit more.
I totally get that! My current setup can't even run the games I want to play anymore. I'm leaning towards a quick upgrade myself since I plan to upgrade again in a few years.
This is solid advice! If you're not too hard on your wallet, upgrading to something that lasts makes sense.
I've got a Corsair CV 650 PSU and 2x 8GB DDR4 RAM sticks.
