What should I do with my grandpa’s iPad and iPhone after he passed away?

My grandpa passed away last June, and I've inherited his iPad and iPhone. The issue is, I don't know his Apple ID or the account email, and his phone numbers are no longer active. I've got the death certificate, but Apple keeps saying I need the Apple ID to access these devices. I'm really at a loss here—any advice on how to either keep and use them or sell/trade them in?

If calling is a hassle, another option is to visit an Apple Store again and ask to speak with a manager. They might have more authority and could help you out more than the regular staff. Just make sure you bring that death certificate as proof.

Good point! Personal visits can make a big difference for these kinds of situations.

First off, I'm really sorry for your loss. Regarding the devices, you might want to try reaching out to Apple Support directly. You can explain your situation to them specifically. Sometimes they can make exceptions if you present proof of inheritance like the death certificate that you have. Prioritize getting in touch with their customer service via phone, it may help to clarify your situation better than going online.

Yeah, definitely call them. I had a similar issue, and they were actually really helpful when I talked to them on the phone!
