Can a 6+2 pin connector work for an 8 pin GPU?

I'm planning to build a PC with an RTX 5060 Ti, and I see that it needs an 8-pin PCIe connector for power. However, my power supply, the MSI MAG A650BN, only has a 6+2 pin PCIe connector available. Are these connectors interchangeable? Can the 6+2 pin connector effectively power the 8-pin GPU, or should I look for a different power supply? Just to be clear, I'm working with the ZOTAC model of the RTX 5060 Ti that has 16GB of VRAM. Thanks for the help!

6+2 is just a flexible way to provide the 8 pins you need. And yes, your calculations are correct; it counts as 8 pins total. Just steer clear of trying to stick a 4+4 connector in there, that wouldn't work!

Good point, I'll remember that!

Totally agree! Just to add, the extra 2 pins on the 6+2 are designed to fit in with an 8-pin GPU, making it really handy. Your PSU will handle the RTX 5060 Ti just fine!

Awesome, that makes it a lot clearer!

Yep, they're essentially the same! The 6+2 pin connector allows you to use it as either a 6-pin or an 8-pin connector, depending on your needs. So you should be good to go with your setup and the MSI power supply you have.
