I'm currently building a gaming rig for 1080P gaming and don't plan on upgrading my ultrawide monitor anytime soon unless it breaks or I hit the jackpot. Here's what I have so far:
- CPU: Ryzen 5 9600X
- Storage: Lexar 790 1TB
- Case: Jonsbo D32 PRO
- Cooler: Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120SE
- RAM: DDR5 6000MHz CL30
- PSU: 650W Gold
- GPU: ASRock STEEL LEGEND 9060XT
For my motherboard options, I'm considering:
Option A: MSI B850M Mortar WIFI 7 (SGD $300)
Option B: GIGABYTE B850M Aorus PRO WIFI 7 (SGD $300).
Are these boards a good fit or overkill for my setup?

You don’t really need to spend that much on the motherboard. The 9600X has a low power draw. Just make sure to grab the 16GB version of the 9060XT because 8GB is becoming a bit limiting for modern games.
Yeah, make sure to check reviews and the warranty. A good PSU is just as important as a motherboard.
I think those motherboards are overkill for your build. You could likely spend less and still get great performance!
I assumed having a solid board would benefit me long-term for future upgrades to Ryzen 7 or 9. Plus, I found that the basic B850M goes for $220 here.
I learned that the cheaper boards can struggle; my old B450M had issues under load. Investing a bit more in a quality board could save you future headaches.
Gotcha! I have a thermalright 650W that has solid performance ratings, but I'm a little worried about efficiency.
