Is It Worth Upgrading to a Ryzen 7 9800X3D for Gaming?

Hey everyone! I currently have a Ryzen 9 7900X CPU paired with a Radeon 7900XT graphics card and 64GB of RAM. I play at a resolution of 3440x1440 ultrawide, and for games like COD, I usually get around 100 FPS. I've heard a lot about the Ryzen 7 9800X3D being better for gaming, and I found it for about $400, which would be around $150 net after selling my current CPU. Do you think I'll notice a significant improvement in my gaming performance if I make the switch, or should I save my money?

I would pass on the upgrade. You might notice a small rise in frames in some games, but overall, I doubt it's worth the hassle of selling and buying a new CPU.

Honestly, given the resolution you're playing at, I don't think the upgrade is necessary. The higher the resolution, the more your GPU has to work, so you're likely GPU-bound rather than CPU-bound. I wouldn't splurge on the new CPU just yet!

Yeah, upgrading to the 9800X3D could help, especially with those pesky 1% lows that tend to cause stuttering in games. If you're not using the extra productivity power of the 7900X, I think it's worth the switch for around $150. I went from a 7700X to a 9800X3D, and the difference in smoothness while playing games like Hell Let Loose was pretty noticeable!

At your resolution, most upgrades will yield more gains from the GPU side than CPU upgrades. So if you're considering future upgrades, look into a better GPU instead. But I hear you about GPU prices being insane right now!

I know right? The prices are wild! I think I'm stuck with my GPU for a while too.

Yeah, I agree! Seems like the best options are out of reach.
