Should I buy a Gigabyte or ASRock RX 9070 XT?

I'm planning to buy a new graphics card and keep hearing negative things about Gigabyte, especially complaints about warranty support and the quality of some of its cards. I'm not very familiar with board-partner brands, so I'm wondering whether Gigabyte is a brand to avoid or whether its products are generally fine. I'm currently comparing a Gigabyte RX 9070 XT Gaming OC, possibly the white version, with a less expensive ASRock RX 9070 XT. I plan to install the card horizontally in the motherboard rather than vertically. Which would be the better choice?

One person reported a system that would not post with a Gigabyte motherboard and Gigabyte RX 9070 XT together. That could have been a compatibility or setup issue rather than a defective graphics card, so it shouldn’t be treated as proof that the combination is generally incompatible. Updating the motherboard firmware and checking power connections would be sensible troubleshooting steps.

The Gigabyte 9070 XT models have been criticized for having a poor thermal solution from the factory. That doesn’t necessarily mean every card will fail or run dangerously hot, but if the ASRock model is cheaper and has a stronger cooler or better local warranty, it may be the safer value choice.

The main concern with some Gigabyte RX 9070 XT models has been the factory thermal material. Reports mentioned thermal gel or putty leaking when the card was installed vertically. One of those issues appears to have been addressed, but the thermal solution is still a point of criticism. The Gaming OC cooler is relatively small for a card configured to draw more power, so temperatures can be higher at stock settings. It can behave better if you limit the card to around the standard 300 W power level.

If you’re mounting it normally, the reported vertical-installation problem is less relevant, but the cooler and warranty support are still worth considering.
