Can I Transfer My M.2 Drive to a New Laptop Without Reinstalling Windows?

I'm about to get a new laptop that has Windows 11 Home, while my old laptop has Windows 11 Pro and a 4TB M.2 drive. The new one only has a 2TB M.2 drive. Since both laptops are from the same brand and the new one is just a newer model, can I just swap my old M.2 drive into the new laptop without having to go through the hassle of setting everything up again?

If your old laptop had BitLocker enabled, you'll want to suspend it and save the recovery key before moving the drive. After that, you can plug it into the new laptop.

Typically, you'll find that new motherboards run into some driver issues when you first start up, but it’s usually fixable with a quick update.

In most cases, this should work well. Just keep in mind that sometimes there might be driver issues the first time you boot, but Windows usually sorts those out pretty quickly.

Yeah, you should be able to just swap it without issues! Just remember to check that BitLocker isn't enabled on the old drive before moving it.

If your new laptop has two M.2 slots, you can use the new 2TB drive for extra storage by formatting it after you get everything set up.
