Should I replace my old PSU for a new build?

I'm working on a new PC build with a 9950x3D and a 5070 graphics card, and I'm wondering if my old Corsair HX1000 power supply (which I've had since 2017) is still good enough. Are there any technical reasons it wouldn't work with this new hardware? Even if it could still function, should I really consider getting a new PSU after almost 9 years?

I'd recommend replacing it. Even though your old HX1000 might work, an 850W PSU is more than enough for your setup, and having fresh hardware can give you peace of mind.

Your PSU should still be perfectly fine. I've got a 15-year-old Seasonic that runs just great. As long as it's not a low-end unit, it should last a long time. Corsair HX1000 is solid, and hardware degradation is often overstated, especially for a quality PSU like yours.

Do NOT open the PSU. It's dangerous and can be lethal even if it looks harmless! Just clean the dust out of it without opening it, and you're good to go.

Keep that PSU! It has a 10-year warranty and was released in early 2017, so you’ve got some time left on it. Unless it shows signs of failure, it should work great with your new components. The warranty usually covers the peak time you'd expect a PSU to fail, so you're still good!

Honestly, if you're not comfortable with checking things inside, just sell your old PSU and buy a new one. I have an old PC from 2005, and that PSU still works fine, but I wouldn't trust something without proper service. Just make sure to double-check your voltages!

Why suggest someone open their PSU? That's just a bad idea!
