Hi everyone,
I'm experiencing a weird networking issue that I can't quite figure out. I'm using Windows (the latest version) and connected to the internet through a FritzBox router. Most websites run perfectly, like YouTube and Google, but sites like Reddit, eBay, and Steam either won't load at all or take ages to appear on my PC. Interestingly, my laptop has the same Wi-Fi connection and sometimes loads these websites after about a 5-minute wait, but my other PC that's connected via LAN and my iPad have no issues at all.
I noticed that when I switch to a mobile hotspot, Reddit loads right away. I even created a new Windows user account, but the problem persisted.
It seems like IPv6 could be the culprit. When I disable it, I lose all internet access, but with IPv6 enabled, Reddit just hangs. I can resolve DNS queries using nslookup for reddit.com, and pinging the site gets responses.
Here's what I've tried:
- Changing to Google and Cloudflare DNS
- Flushing the DNS and resetting the network stack
- Checking Windows firewall and host file
- Resetting the FritzBox router settings
- Using different browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge)
- Resetting network settings on my PC
Does anyone have any suggestions for what could be causing these issues? I've tried a lot, including some tips from ChatGPT, but nothing seems to work!

It sounds like there might be an issue with how your router is handling IPv6 and IPv4. When you disable IPv6, you shouldn't lose internet access if you have an IPv4 address available. Make sure you're disabling IPv6 correctly in the router settings, and don't forget to reboot the router after making changes. Sometimes, simply toggling the network adapter off and on after changing settings can help too.
I had a similar problem. It might help to check if your router really supports both IPv4 and IPv6 simultaneously. If you're disabling it in the router but still losing internet, your router may need a firmware update. Also, try resetting the router to factory settings and reconfiguring it from scratch—sometimes that clears up weird glitches.
