Why Does My PC Keep Rebooting and Losing Boot Order?

I've been having a frustrating issue with my 5-year-old PC after it unexpectedly rebooted while I was using Windows 11. The message I got was to "Reboot and Select proper Boot device". Initially, I thought it was the CMOS battery since I hadn't replaced it in 5 years, so I swapped it out with a new Duracell CR2032. Everything seemed fine for a couple of weeks, but the issue came back today. I checked the BIOS and saw that the Windows Boot Manager is still there, but it's listed last in the Boot Order. I haven't made any changes to the system besides the battery replacement. What could be causing this annoying problem?

It might still be a battery issue. Sometimes the new battery can be faulty or not seated correctly, so make sure to reseat it and check its voltage if possible.

It's seated in the right direction, and the voltage reads 3V.

If the CMOS battery were truly dead, you’d typically see time errors every time you boot the computer. It sounds like you might need a BIOS update. It could be outdated, especially for your CPU. Just double-check that any BIOS update you do is compatible with your Ryzen 5 2600.

Should I go for the beta F67g version or the stable F66? Do I need to follow a specific update path for the BIOS?

The latest BIOS version is F67g, which was released recently. I recommend upgrading to that version. Once updated, monitor your system to see if the rebooting issue reappears before trying any other troubleshooting. Remember, the CMOS battery should only affect settings when power is off, not during regular use.

Thanks! Is it okay to jump straight to the beta F67g or should I stick with F66?
