How do I know when it’s time to replace my old laptop?

Hey everyone! I'm starting a two-year nursing program soon and I've been using a MacBook I won in a scholarship back in 2019. Lately, it's been slowing down significantly, and the battery doesn't hold a charge very well. Since I need a dependable computer for my studies, I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to speed it up or maybe just replace the battery. Money is tight, and I'd love to avoid buying a new laptop if possible, but it has been shutting off unexpectedly. Any advice from those who have experience with this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

You’ll really know it’s time to get a new laptop once it stops turning on entirely! But before you consider that, replacing the battery and upgrading the drive could really help if the laptop isn’t designed to be obsolete yet. Just a heads-up though, Apple makes it tough to swap out parts easily now, and I've heard mixed reviews about their service. If you're feeling adventurous and okay with switching to Windows, maybe check out Surface Pros as an alternative.

Haha, I guess I’ll just keep bringing my charger with me until it gives up! It looks like going Windows sounds like my next step since a new Mac isn't in the budget.

Don’t forget to back up everything! If your MacBook dies suddenly, you could potentially lose all your important files.

Thanks for the reminder! I need to make sure everything is saved.

Honestly, I’m using a laptop from late 2018 and it’s still working fine! Unless yours is broken beyond repair, you might not need to rush into buying a new one.
