Need Help! My New 5070 Won’t Post After Upgrading from 1080ti

Hey folks! I've just made a big upgrade from an 1080ti to a 5070 on my Ryzen 7 5800X build with 32GB RAM (3200MHz, 4 sticks). I'm using an ASUS Prime motherboard and a Corsair 850W Platinum PSU. The problem is, when I try to power on, it doesn't post. The power button lights up, but when I press it, the system turns off immediately instead of going through a proper shutdown. I thought it might be the motherboard or CPU, especially since I had a minor issue the day I bought it, but I'm at my wit's end. I put the 1080ti back in since I was planning to sell it to build a PC for a friend, but now I'm stuck. I don't have any thermal paste to try a different CPU either. Any ideas?

Could your PCIe slot be damaged? If your motherboard's detecting different GPUs but not posting, it might be a sign of a bad slot. Since you did a fresh install for the BIOS, it's also possible the BIOS settings need tweaking for the new GPU. Try resetting the BIOS and see if that helps!

It sounds like you might have a short somewhere, especially since you mentioned the power button issue. You might want to double-check all your connections and try reseating your graphics card in the PCIe slot. If you can, test the 5070 in another system to rule it out as the culprit. Also, make sure your motherboard BIOS is the latest version, as compatibility can sometimes be an issue after upgrades. Good luck!

Yeah, a short or a bad connection seems likely. I had a similar issue once and it turned out to be a loose cable. Simple stuff like that can trip you up, so it's worth checking.
