I recently purchased a Scarlett 2i2 4G audio interface and ran into some serious issues. After installing the necessary software, I experienced a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) with the error message 'KMODE EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED' and it pointed to a McAfee driver, specifically mfehidk.sys, as the culprit. According to Scarlett, this is related to a problematic McAfee driver that was preinstalled on my HP computer.
I found instructions suggesting that I could resolve the issue by booting into Safe Mode and uninstalling McAfee. However, I wasn't able to successfully access Safe Mode even after trying the bcdedit command to set it up. Instead, I received another BSOD stating 'INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE.' Now I'm stuck in a loop between these two error screens after each restart, and I can't even enter the recovery menu anymore. I can access the BIOS settings, though. Here are my specs: HP Pavilion Gaming TG01-20xx, 1TB SSD, 16GB RAM, Ryzen 7 5700G, RTX 3060ti. Any advice on how to fix this?

If you've just bought the PC and are having these issues, I'd suggest reinstalling Windows using a USB stick. That way you can start fresh and get rid of all the bloatware for a cleaner setup. It’s a hassle but it often resolves these kinds of driver conflicts.
It sounds like the bcdedit command could have messed up your boot settings. If you can get into the BIOS, you might see an option to reset to default settings which could help. You may also want to check if your SSD is detected properly in BIOS. If that doesn't help, maybe try booting from a Windows recovery USB to fix the boot issues.
I've had my PC for about 3.5 years now and I really don’t want to reinstall unless I have to. Is there no other way to fix this?
