What can I do about being charged for a canceled app subscription?

I recently had an issue where Apple charged me for a subscription to an app that I thought I had canceled, but I ended up being one day late. I've requested a refund twice, but both times I've been denied. I've also reached out to Apple Support and filed a complaint with the FDIC. Is it worth filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau as well? What other options do I have? I used my debit card, and my bank hasn't been much help either.

Being just one day late typically means you end up getting charged, unfortunately. Apple has their terms in place, and they don't have to issue a refund in this case. Complaining is your choice, but I'm not sure it’ll change anything. If you had used a credit card, you could dispute the charge, but that could risk locking your Apple account altogether.

I’m sorry, but late is late. Your complaint might not yield a refund since it seems Apple charged you as per their terms. If you dispute the charge through your bank, keep in mind you could lose access to anything stored in iCloud and will have to start fresh with a new Apple ID.

Just to give you a heads up, filing with the Better Business Bureau won’t really change your situation here. Apple is quite clear that subscriptions need to be canceled at least 24 hours in advance to avoid charges. It's a frustrating lesson, but maybe set some reminders for the future.

Look, you didn't cancel before the renewal, so that charge was expected. And just to clarify, contacting the FDIC doesn’t seem right… they regulate banks, not app subscriptions. It’s a common issue, and you’re far from alone in facing it. Maybe next time set a reminder for cancellations?
