Am I Dealing with a Virus or Just a Random Computer Glitch?

I was watching a movie on an illegal website when my laptop started acting weird—glitching, freezing, and then I got a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) which led to a restart. I logged out of my emails and disconnected my phone, which was linked to the laptop, but I don't have any antivirus software installed. I did a quick malware scan, and it came back clean, but I'm not convinced that means I'm in the clear. I'm also thinking that maybe my laptop just needed an update. How can I tell if I've actually been hacked or if there's a virus on my laptop? I read that even installing antivirus might not catch everything, and I'm worried about my phone too since it was connected.

To check if you're really infected, you could try accessing the minidump files from your laptop that show crash logs from BSODs. If you can boot into Windows normally or use Safe Mode, look in C:WindowsMinidump. From there, you'd need to compress the files and upload them somewhere like MediaFire for a more in-depth look.

A BSOD and freezing are pretty common issues that can happen for a variety of reasons—it's not always a sign of a hack or malware. Usually, it might just be hardware problems or driver issues. You shouldn’t panic just yet!

What causes these freezes then? I thought viruses could be a reason.

Definitely can be confusing! Often it's just poor software or hardware, like outdated drivers or bad memory. Sometimes faults in applications or the operating system too.

If you're unsure about the BSOD, it’s wise to do a full update and run a more comprehensive antivirus scan. Check your laptop’s health regularly—those updates can prevent a lot of problems!

You shouldn't need to freak out about malware if you're just seeing a BSOD. Most malware is pretty stealthy—it mainly hides as keyloggers or ransomware. Your best bet is to keep your system updated and maybe consider a good antivirus just in case! They can help catch anything suspicious.

Honestly, if you're watching movies from illegal sites and don’t have antivirus installed, you're already taking risks. But as for the BSOD, it’s often more related to system issues than hackers. Just make sure to take care of your device and keep it updated!
