Can I Get IT Support Work for a UK Company While Living in Australia?

Hey everyone! I used to work for a managed service provider in Australia where I was busy managing IT for over 50 clients. I recently transitioned to an internal IT role at a large financial institution, and while the pay is better and I get to work with tools I've been eager to use, it's pretty boring – not much challenge or excitement. I'm looking for ways to keep busy and make some extra cash. Since UK business hours are during my evenings, I'm wondering if any of you have experience working remotely for UK-based companies? Do they hire part-time remote IT Support or SysAdmin roles for shorter shifts? I've got solid skills, particularly with Microsoft systems, scripting, and general support, and I'd hope for at least £12-15 per hour. Any advice or experience would be appreciated. Cheers!

You might want to target UK companies that have branches in Australia. However, asking for a 4-hour shift could be a stretch since they often prefer full-time coverage from their local teams. General IT support could be difficult to get through when they can easily find local talent for those hours.

Honestly, it’s pretty unlikely for roles that aren’t specialized. UK companies usually would need a local presence in Australia from a tax standpoint, plus it might not be financially viable for them to hire someone on the other side of the world for general IT tasks.

Have you considered looking at primary schools? They often have tight budgets and might just need someone for a few hours a week, which could fit your 4-hour need.

Just a heads-up, the job market in the UK isn't exactly booming right now, so finding one of these roles may be tough even if you meet the qualifications. Good luck with your search though!
