I'm transitioning from Windows to Linux, and I've been using Spacedesk, which sets up a virtual display on my main computer and allows my laptop to act as a second monitor. However, since Spacedesk only supports Windows for the driver, I'm looking for a Linux alternative that can help me achieve something similar. My setup includes a Ryzen 5 5600x with an RX6600 GPU, and I want to connect my laptop, an Elitebook 8470p, over LAN for low latency. Are there any recommendations for software that can do this in a Linux environment? Also, I've heard that the solutions might be different between Wayland and X11, so I'm open to switching to X11 if necessary.

You might want to check out Deskreen. It's been mentioned as a good alternative for using a laptop as a second monitor. However, make sure to set it up right since some users have had mixed experiences with it. It could work depending on your setup!
Have you looked into Barrier? It's primarily for sharing mouse and keyboard, but it offers some window management features. It's not exactly what Spacedesk does, but it could help with controlling your devices from one interface.
That's close, but not quite what I want. I need to move actual windows to the laptop display, not just control it.
I tried Deskreen before, but it only mirrored my main screen, which wasn’t what I needed at all. It’s worth a shot, but I can't say it worked perfectly for me.
