I've got some old components from my dad's collection, like SATA drives, RAM sticks, and GPUs. I'm curious if there are any issues with installing these in a newer motherboard. Will I actually see any performance improvements, or would it just be a waste of power?

For RAM, keep in mind that older generation sticks may not fit with new motherboards. GPUs might work if they are PCI Express compatible, but performance will be subpar compared to modern ones. As for SATA drives, they usually work fine, but don’t forget they have a shelf life too.
You really need to consider if the RAM is the same generation, speed, and timing as what you have in your system already. If they don’t match, you might run into issues. As for GPUs, they’re usually not worth adding since only one can handle the rendering for a game. SATA drives can typically be added without much fuss, but you might notice slightly slower boot times. Overall, some parts might be more trouble than they're worth.
There are some drawbacks when using old parts. They may not play nice with your current system and can be slower compared to newer components. Plus, older parts can fail sooner than you'd hope. That said, if you already have them, the main advantage is they're free! It's worth a shot to see if they work for you, and if not, then you can always upgrade later.
